Dr. Philip Cheney

 Meet Our People – The Enduring Spirit of the Chickasaw Nation

Dr. Philip Cheney is a research scientist at Battelle, a nonprofit based in Ohio advancing science and technology in national security, health, energy and environmental industries. Cheney's approach draws from his First American heritage, crediting a "Chickasaw warrior attitude" as he contributes to the national efforts against the opioid crisis. Those efforts include developing a system that detects illegal opioid shipments and other biological threats through the traditional mail system – one of his first big projects.

Dr. Cheney also takes great pride in his space work. "Sending rockets up with our technologies on it is exciting," he adds. He carries a similar pride in being Chickasaw as he praises the Chickasaw Nation's education and outreach programs in their efforts to inspire future leaders to come.
