For years, Colonel Jessica Owens, Ret. served her country as a "warrior in the sky," taking on enemy gunfire, providing fire to enemies and embodying the Chickasaw warrior spirit. After she retired from the Marine Corps, Jessica began rescuing horses. She credits her Chickasaw heritage for the spiritual connection she feels to the animals she saves.
"[Being Chickasaw] means belonging to something that is greater than myself," says Jessica. "My ancestors have always been there guiding me along, giving me strength when I needed it."
