Traditional Foods

Chickasaw Culture Keepers

Together, JoAnn Ellis and Vicki Penner have authored two cookbooks featuring Chickasaw traditional foods: "Ilimpa'chi': We're Gonna Eat!"and "Ilittibaaimpa': Let's Eat Together!," both of which contain recipes passed down from elders through their families. Historically, Chickasaws ate meats like deer and rabbit, as well as other dishes like pashofa and grape dumplings. In this video, watch as JoAnn and Vicki cook osto ashiila', a classic pumpkin soup.
