Metalsmithing

Chickasaw Nation News

Eddie Postoak is a Chickasaw citizen and artisan who works with metal. Here, he demonstrates how he creates jewelry in traditional styles that have been around for generations, and he talks about why he’s proud to be a metalworker to keep this tradition alive. Eddie explains that in ancient times, different metals and jewelry styles (specifically in gorgets) were used to indicate a person's clan association and role within the clan. Three bars of metal on a gorget, for example, refer to the wearer's leadership position.
