Regalia

Chickasaw Culture Keepers

Chickasaw elders Pauline Brown and Rose Jefferson continue the tradition of hand-sewing Chickasaw regalia as a way to honor their ancestors. Pauline's mother and grandmother were both stomp dancers who wore the traditional ribbon dresses; many decades later, Pauline is using her skills to bring this culturally important piece of regalia to the current generation. Rose says she enjoys using her hands and sharing what she makes with younger Chickasaws, in turn ensuring her legacy is passed on through the years.
