Beaded Collars

Chickasaw Culture Keepers

Kelly Reynolds is a Chickasaw bead artist who shares her love of the traditional beaded collar. Today, she says, women tend to match their collars to the ribbons on their dresses, though styles can vary in the way the beads are crossed or laid together. Kelly says she loves creating beaded collars because it’s a calming craft that allows her to practice patience and hone her artistic skills. She also enjoys sharing this and other traditions with her daughters, noting that she’s proud to be able to teach them what it means to be a modern Chickasaw woman.
