Because of their removal to Indian Territory in the 1830s, they left prosperous homes, plantations, hunting grounds and visitor-oriented commerce behind. Today, many Chickasaws make the pilgrimage from Oklahoma to their ancestral homelands here, where many feel the presence of their ancestors.
