Many Chickasaw elders have lived through hard times. Rose Jefferson shares part of her experience growing up poor with little food, yet consistently fed by love and faith. She describes how her mother would always find something to prepare, be it bread and salt or produce from the garden when available, for family and visitors alike. Even when resources were low, Chickasaws found a way to take care of one another.
