A passion for music and an alumna of the Chickasaw Summer Arts Academy

Hailing from Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Chickasaw violinist Katie Barrick is a senior at Oklahoma City University (OCU) majoring in Music Business. She studies violin in the studio of Samuel Formicola, a violinist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and adjunct instructor of violin at Oklahoma City University. Katie also studied music composition for four years at the Chickasaw Summer Arts Academy under the tutelage of Chickasaw classical composer and pianist Jerod Tate. Her piece entitled "The Devil's Advocate," written for string quartet, was featured on the nationally released 2010 album "Oshtali: Music For String Quartet" and was performed at the 2012 State of Creativity Forum by members of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. She also has two additional quartet pieces featured on the 2013 album "Tobachi: Chickasaw Nation Young Composers Recording Project." Katie is a member of the OCU Symphony Orchestra and frequently plays at churches, festivals and other various events throughout the state.
