A lifetime cultivating artistic talent to beautifully represent Chickasaw history and culture

Starting at the age of two, Dustin was interested in colors and design. Dustin grew up in Ada, Oklahoma and at the age of three became interested in comic books and graphic novels shortly thereafter.

At 18, Dustin moved to California, where he studied art and design at Santa Monica College and the Multimedia Institute of Hollywood from 2000 to 2004. While mastering his skills as an artist, his native heritage began to take hold. Dustin began creating illustrations for his tribe. His grandmother, Caroline, an original Chickasaw Nation enrollee, helped him understand the beauty of their tribe's history. This led to the inspiration and cultivation of his talents.

Since then, Mater returned to Ada to work with the Chickasaw Nation as the Graphic Arts Coordinator for the Arts & Humanities Division.
