Governor Overton James tours the Chickasaws' ancestral homelands

Governor Overton James went to tour the Chickasaws' ancestral home in Tupelo in 1978. However, at that time, the tribe did not have the funds to even open an office there. By 2005, the nation was able to provide a grant to the Archaeological Conservancy to purchase 35-acres of a historically significant 18th century village.
