The production of "Lowak Shoppala'" begins in very ancient times. It starts with a "calling song," which is how clans went about calling people to their meetings. As Lona Barrick, Executive Officer of Cultural Tourism for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Culture and Humanities, explains the family structure is critical to Chickasaw society, and this was expressed throughout the different time periods represented in the production.
