Brothers and military servicemen who have honored their nation and their tribe

Descendants of Edmund Pickens, Jay and Mike Mitchell are two brothers who have honored their nation and their tribe through years of service in the Oklahoma National Guard. Both have served in the Iraq war.

Relocated at the same forward operating base in Iraq, the Mitchell brothers were quick to show their loyalty and pride for the Chickasaw Nation. During their deployment, they raised the Chickasaw flag as a reminder of where they came from, and they lived by the Chickasaw creed, “Unconquered and Unconquerable.”

Jay was a chief warrant officer and Mike was a major for the Oklahoma National Guard. They are both now executive employees for the Chickasaw Nation.

Accomplishments

  • Both received the Bronze Star for service in Iraq
