Continuing his family's legacy of a love for basketball

As a native of Norman, Oklahoma, Bo Overton grew up loving the Oklahoma Sooners and attending football and basketball games at the University of Oklahoma. He counts his father and uncles as role models; the men were all basketball coaches, and Overton eventually followed in their footsteps.

He played as starting point guard at OU until 1983 and has enjoyed a diverse and lengthy coaching career. He has served as the men's assistant coach at Oral Roberts, Texas State and Louisiana Tech; the head coach and athletic director at Murray State College in Tishomingo; the women's assistant coach at OU; and head coach of the WNBA team Chicago Sky. He even did a stint with the national team in the Bahamas and with the Women's Chinese Basketball Association in the 2012 London Olympics.

Overton currently serves as the head women's basketball coach at Oklahoma City University and considers it an honor and privilege to return to his home state. The strength of the female athlete, he says, is truly amazing, and watching his players work hard and realize their dreams is what makes it all worth it. With the support of his family, his team and the Chickasaw Nation, he says, he's able to persevere through the daily challenges and appreciate the rewards.
