Chickasaw Nation News

In this special episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran take us through Chickasaw Country and share highlights from the 2017 Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival. "We stand together more than 66,000 Chickasaws strong," said Governor Bill Anoatubby during his State of the Nation address in Tishomingo on October 7. "We're proud to say Chikasha poya—we are Chickasaw." During his address, Governor Anoatubby spoke passionately about tribal programs and services and shared the outstanding growth of the Nation: this fiscal year, Chickasaw business income increased by 7%, governmental revenue increased by 4% and the Nation’s assets increased by 10%. He also notes that more Chickasaw have been engaged with their culture than ever before. Following the State of the Nation Address, crowds gathered in downtown Tishomingo for the annual Chickasaw Parade, where people from all over experienced the Chickasaw culture coming alive. Other festival highlights include the Southeastern Art Show and Market (SEASAM), where visitors can both interact with artists and purchase their work. This year, Chickasaw bladesmith Daniel Worcester was the recipient of the Silver Feather Award, which honors citizens dedicated to preserving the Chickasaw culture, and painter Brenda Kingery was named Dynamic Woman of the Year. New royalty was crowned during the Chickasaw Princess Pageant, one of the most anticipated events of festival week. The new Little Miss Chickasaw, Junior Princess and Chickasaw Princess will serve as role models and ambassadors of the Chickasaw Nation. Youth Olympics, Senior Olympics, a 5K Fun Run, traditional games and outdoor sporting events also took place. Brad and Quin close the episode with an inspiring musical tribute featuring Chickasaw musicians.
