Chickasaw Nation News

Former Chickasaw Arts Academy participant Katie Barrick, who has been playing the violin since age three, says that music is both a means of creative expression and a way to explore parts of herself that she wouldn't be able to do otherwise. Katie says that being part of the Chickasaw Nation, a Nation that highly values and encourages the arts, has been a blessing. And in Ada, Oklahoma, about 100 kids participated in the annual Football Summer Camp, where they learned everything about the game and joined in a variety of drills to increase strength, speed and agility. Likewise, at the annual Cheerleading Clinic, participants worked on developing leadership skills and building core muscles. Plus, at CNASA (Chickasaw Nation Aviation and Space Academy), kids from all over spent a week learning about math, engineering, space and science. Also, in 2019, the United States Mint will release a $1 coin that recognizes the impact Native Americans have had on the U.S. Space Program.
