Native Explorers

Dr. Kent Smith, Co-founder of the Native Explorers Program

The Chickasaw Nation Native Explorers Program is a unique and educational learning experience designed to expose young people to the fields of earth science, natural science, biomedical science and medicine. Led by scientists, physicians, educators and professional mentors, participants are guided by experts on paleontological expeditions, anatomy explorations, preservation initiatives and much more. The hands-on classes and inventive excursions also teach young Chickasaws how modern science connects to their own culture. The various career opportunities and internships available within these fields are shared with students interested in pursuing the sciences. Native Explorers is available to Chickasaw students ages 6 to 18 who reside in the Ada and Ardmore, Oklahoma, areas. For more information, visit Chickasaw.net.
