Chickasaw Nation News

These Chickasaw youth know that there's never a dull moment at CNASA camp in Ada, Oklahoma. The Chickasaw Nation Aviation and Science Academy is a weeklong summer academy for students interested in space, aviation, math and science. The action-packed week is full of learning about different fields of science, building projects, testing experiments and making new friends! The students enjoy the activities because everything is designed as a game and a mix of science, math and creativity is part of the challenge, intended to help students learn how to think out of the box. In one experiment, the student are tasked with building a boat that floats using just three items: cardboard, tape and plastic bags. CNASA camp also goes beyond the classroom to the Ada Airport to explore, firsthand, aviation and the beauty of flight. At its heart, CNASA is designed to inspire excellence and to motivate and challenge the vision, talent and energies of our young people, encouraging them to pursue careers in science and technology. "That's all we're here for, to get them started and to get their interest; show them a little bit of what's out there and hopefully experience something they've never seen before, " says STEM teacher Clayton Edwards.
