Chickasaw elder Nancy Bradshaw says that each of her quilts tells a story. Nancy compares quilt making to putting together a jigsaw puzzle; in each practice, you must figure out how the pieces go together. Preferring hand-sewing over sewing machines, Nancy painstakingly creates her impressive quilts with a mere needle and thread. It usually takes six months to emerge with a finished piece. Nancy says each quilt holds a piece of her soul, and in 20 years, her children and grandchildren will be able to remember her through her craft.
