Chickasaw Nation News

The 2017 Artesian Arts Festival, a favorite annual event held in Sulphur, Oklahoma on Memorial Day weekend, attracted thousands of visitors this year. The Chickasaw Nation hosts the festival to share Native American culture and to celebrate the work of American Indian artists. Bill Glass, Jr., winner of Best in Show and a first-time artist at the festival, notes that art is a way of preserving culture and should be collected and passed on through generations. Chickasaw elder Pauline Brown, another artist featured in the festival, shows off her handmade doll and talks about her motivation behind developing her artistic skills.
