Chickasaw Nation News

Chickasaw citizen Heather Ahtone works with the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman as an associate curator of Native American and non-Western art. She discusses some of the pieces currently on display at the museum and shares their cultural significance. As a Chickasaw, Heather provides a unique perspective and approaches her curatorial work with respect to each artwork, artist and the tribal community as a whole. She says she feels a great sense of responsibility in being accountable to her Native American peers through her role at FJJMA. Her latest exhibit, "Photosynthesis," featuring photographic portraits, will be on display at the museum in January.
