Chikashshanompa' is uniting Chickasaws around the world through the Chikasha Academy Adult Immersion Virtual Program. This immersive online resource encourages comprehension, confidence and a deeper connection to Chikashshanompa' and Chickasaw culture. "This is our language," says online language moderator Emma Alcazar. "And we, for various reasons, weren't able to learn it as children. And so, I'd like to strengthen that," she says.
With the guidance of experienced moderators who have also been through the program, new speakers work through Rosetta Stone® Chickasaw lessons and practice speaking in their cohort. To anyone considering reconnecting with their ancestral language, Aubrey Rankin, another of the online language moderators, says: "Your community and your ancestors are cheering you on. The language is there, and it's yours, and it's here to stay."
