Chickasaws As Spiritual People

Lisa Billy

Chickasaws have always had a strong spiritual connection with the Creator, noted by missionaries who lived among them. Lisa Billy recalls being motivated to fast at ceremonies before she really understood what it was. Evidence of its wisdom is found in tribal teas and medicines that are now pharmaceuticals. Given this spiritual strength, she observes that when native people have a stronger voice, it makes us stronger as a nation.
