Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran announce that construction is underway on a new two-story pharmacy building attached to the current Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada. This new facility will be able to fill over one million prescriptions per year, with a four-lane drive-through and pharmacy call center. "Now this expansion will allow us to serve more Chickasaws, and more Native Americans, than ever before," says Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. Also underway is a new state-of-the-art wellness center next to the Chickasaw Nation Family Life Center in Ada. This new building will be almost twice the size of the existing facility and will feature separate exercise areas for adults and children, a large cardio room, an aerobics studio and an elevated walking track. On March 10 the Chickasaw Nation will host the Youth Arts Month Celebration, a community event featuring art booths, dance and martial arts demonstrations, games and more. The Chickasaw Youth Clubs in Sulphur and Tishomingo are participating in the "Players In Progress" (PIP) program, learning basketball skills and showing off their ball-handling prowess at Sulphur High School and other local venues. Chickasaw citizens will have the opportunity to participate in the Ackia Training Program, learning about combat, fitness and Native culture in preparation for the filming of Ackia, a historical epic about Chickasaw warriors defending their land from French soldiers. This episode closes with a special preview of the upcoming documentary, Bearer of the Morning: The Life of Te Ata Thompson Fisher, which will open in March to coincide with Women's History Month. This documentary celebrates the legacy of the groundbreaking Chickasaw storyteller who performed at the White House and around the world, using a combination of interviews with her family members and footage of her performances.
