Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran report on an exciting new development happening at Lake Texoma: the Chickasaw Nation has partnered with the state of Oklahoma to construct a hotel, casino, restaurant, gift shop and lakefront fishing and boating cottages. Next, they take us to Tupelo, Miss., the historic homeland of the Chickasaw people, where citizens recently participated in the inaugural Chickasaw Celebration highlighting the Nation's history and culture for local students; Tupelo will soon be the site of a new Chickasaw Heritage Center. And at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art (FJJMA) in Norman, an exhibit called "Picturing Indian Territory" is offering a scholarly examination of this area and its people in the period from 1819 to statehood in 1907. Chickasaw citizen Heather Ahtone works with FJJMA as an associate curator of Native American and non-Western art. As a Chickasaw, Heather provides a unique perspective and approaches her curatorial work with respect to each artwork, artist and the tribal community as a whole.
