Chickasaw Nation News
Brad Clonch and Quin Tran take us first to the Chickasaw Council House Museum to see a special exhibit that pays tribute to veterans. The Chickasaw Nation also annually hosts a trip to Washington, D.C. so that Chickasaw veterans can take part in the Veterans Day ceremony. Now, the Nation is hosting a Chickasaw Veterans Conference on May 18 at WinStar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. There will be special topics like “Women Veterans” and “Veterans Healthcare,” and all active and retired military are invited to attend a special luncheon hosted by Governor Bill Anoatubby. Next, we travel to the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur for a recap of the annual Three Sisters Festival, which honors the horticultural traditions of growing corn, beans and squash. Various Easter celebrations also took place across the Chickasaw Nation in April, and Chickasaw children, senior citizens and the general public were invited to take part. Lastly, we meet Dr. Karen York, a Chickasaw citizen, artist and Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in Tulsa. While earning her doctorate in Art History at the University of Indiana, she immersed herself in different cultures and says that her appreciation of the arts comes from her Chickasaw heritage.
