Chickasaw Nation News

Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin this episode of CNTV News with a special dedication in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Governor Anoatubby and transportation officials cut the ribbon at the opening of new highway ramps on Exit 3 near WinStar World Casino, which will make travel safer and more convenient. Next we get a glimpse of Harvest Fest, which was held at the Chickasaw White House in Emet. Festival visitors embraced the culture of the early 20th century with a variety of activities, including live bluegrass music. The Chickasaw Cultural Center also hosts a handful of celebrations during the fall months; the center's annual Fall Festival featured traditional food and games, and the living village portrayed Chickasaw life as it was in the 1750s. A fun event for charity took place in Ada this month: a bike race called the Pontotoc Pursuit helped raise funds for the Chickasaw Foundation, a nonprofit that awards scholarships to Chickasaw students. Finally, we end in Kingston for the 10th anniversary of the Chickasaw Children's Village. This unique living center for Native American youth in 1st through 12th grade provides an opportunity for social, spiritual and personal growth. Home to about 70 kids, the village is led by two house parents who provide guidance, support and a sense of family to the children who live there.
