Chickasaw Nation News

Honor. Tradition. Courage. Our People. Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin this episode of CNTV News with the theme of the 2014 Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival, to be held in Ada, Tishomingo and Sulphur later this month. The event's many activities will culminate in the Annual Meeting and the State of the Nation address on the morning of October 4. Next, we travel to the ARTesian Gallery & Studios in Sulphur for a unique health exhibit entitled "Native Voices: Native Peoples' Concepts of Health and Illness," which highlights the connection between wellness, illness and cultural life. Moving on to the Chickasaw Cultural Center, citizens and leaders gathered to honor August 20 as the Chickasaw Nation Day of Prayer. This special ceremony involved notable Chickasaws and featured prayer, music and fellowship. And in Norman, Chickasaw youth attended the OU Kid's Day to kick off the start of football season. The kids met former OU players, toured the field and celebrated OU's first big win of the season. Finally, we learn about a unique opportunity called the School-to-Work program, in which Chickasaw citizens can be full-time tribal employees with benefits while also attending college.
