Chickasaw Nation News

This episode of CNTV News introduces us to traditional Chickasaw beadwork. Elder Glenda Galvin leads a group of bead artists crafting collars that accompany the traditional female dresses. Each year, the tribe grants a Chickasaw woman with the Dynamic Woman of the Year award, which is accompanied by a hand beaded collar crafted by Lorie Robins. Also, April is National Reading Month. The Chickasaw Press has a collection of books that are perfect for families to explore Chickasaw history and culture. Chickasaw Lives, written by Richard Green, explores historical and modern day lives of Chickasaw citizens. Another book — The Chickasaw Prayer Book — offers the reader a chance to read scripture, prayers, and hymns in both Chickasaw and English. Later, Lauren Stewart recounts the Chickasaw celebration of Youth Arts Month at the Chickasaw Cultural Center.
