Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad and Quin hear from Chickasaw violinist and composer Brandi Berry Benson. Connecting from Chicago, where she serves on the faculty of DePaul University and Northwestern University, Benson shares the story and influences for her latest work, "Songs of the Chickasaws." This musical narrative weaves together the stories of prominent Chickasaw figures, Baroque and Bluegrass influences, Chickasaw storytelling techniques and Benson's own family history. Through her work, Benson hopes to inspire future generations to connect with their roots and learn the stories of Chickasaw people past and present. "When you dig in the past, you find these treasures," she says. "And they just open up more for you in the future." To learn more about Brandi and "Songs of the Chickasaws," visit bbexperience.org.
