Chickasaw Nation News

Hosts Brad Clonch and Quin Tran share news of a recent partnership between Packed Promise and Amazon Business for easier online food deliveries to Chickasaw children.

Packed Promise is a Chickasaw Nation supplemental food program that began in 2015. Today, it's grown to serve about 2,300 Chickasaw children, ages 4-18, each month. The program includes $60 per child per month for qualifying households – with an extra $15 to be used at the grocery store for fresh produce. Learn more at PackedPromise.com.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center celebrated its Awa-Talhlhá'pi, 15-Year Anniversary, with three days of festivities including an art market, stomp dance demonstrations, cultural activities and more across its 184-acre campus.

Visitors were invited to see the touring exhibit, Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories. The touring exhibit offers a glimpse into 1870s boarding schools, where Chickasaws were forbidden to speak their native language and forced to assume new identities.

Quin Tran also talks with Jennifer Jesse, Hofanti Chokma Program Manager. The collaborative project, meaning "to grow well" in Chickasaw, works to strengthen families and promote positive parenting through community. Parent Café gathers parents for 90-minute, virtual one-on-ones and small groups to discuss important topics, share resources and tips and tricks to combat parental stress.
