Chickasaw Nation News

Brad and Quin begin a new year of CNTV News by meeting with 2024 Miss Indian Oklahoma pageant winner Faithlyn Seawright. With this historic win, Faithlyn becomes the first Chickasaw woman to hold both Junior Miss Indian Oklahoma (2015) and Miss Indian Oklahoma titles. She looks forward to encouraging indigenous language revitalization throughout the state as a goodwill ambassador representing all 39 Oklahoma tribes. Faithlyn shares her experience in the Chikasha Academy Adult Immersion Program and the importance of carrying on tribal languages and culture, including the story of Ofi' Tohbi Ishto' (Great White Dog).

The Chickasaw Nation places great emphasis on education and offers a variety of programs to encourage job training and learning for citizens. The School to Work program gives participants the opportunity to pursue full-time college or vocational training while receiving on-the-job experience that prepares graduates for the work force. This program is accepting applications beginning January 8 and anyone interested can call (580) 559-0815 for more information. The Toksali Smart Program prepares students ages 14-21 for success by providing hands-on job training and opportunities for mentorship, leadership, job shadowing and life skills education. Applications are currently open and can be found at Chickasaw.net/ToksaliSmart.

To close the episode, Chickasaw Chief of Public Health & Research Dr. Daniel Molina shares how to create and maintain healthy habits. "Be very intentional and identify what you want to accomplish. It can be a small goal or a huge goal, but just create the goal," he says. "Every day is a new day, and you can always begin a road to a healthy goal."
