In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin with a Chickasaw who is using his teaching talents and passion for learning to inspire young people to succeed. Sher-Mon Clement is the CEO of Youth Connect Club, a nonprofit organization in Ada, Oklahoma. From physical fitness and sports to problem-solving activities, the program is designed to teach work ethic, character and community. Although Clement lived much of his life overseas with his military family, it was his summers in Oklahoma at Chickasaw Nation camps that inspired him to pay it forward and work with kids.
Chickasaw Nation summer camps are in full swing and the tribe offers a full range of programs, from artistic and cultural to athletic. Camps and clinics are available for all ages. Dr. Tangra Broge, Chickasaw Nation Chief of Pediatrics, explains that children need close to 10 hours of rest each night to perform their best during the day, and electronics should be limited as they prepare for bed.
To close the episode, CNTV News connects with Savannah Burwell, a Chickasaw citizen who was recently recognized with the 40 Under 40 award by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. Burwell speaks with Quin about the prestigious honor and her work with the Chickasaw Nation as content manager for the Chickasaw Nation Literary Arts Division.
