Chickasaw Nation News

This time on CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin with one Chickasaw elder's story of inspiration. More than 20 years ago, Mrs. Gaile Loving had a high-stress job as a school administrator and noticed more aches and pains and weight gain. Inspired by the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, she set a new course in her life and began training as a runner. After her first full marathon in 2001, she participated in a dozen more marathons across the country. After a string of injuries, the Chickasaw elder traded in her running shoes for walking shoes. She now has a new goal: to walk in half marathons in each of the 50 states. Walking has helped her prevent disease and even recover from COVID-19.

The Chickasaw Nation's AYA Walk App is an interactive mobile walking app that allows users to connect to cultural and historical content along their fitness journey. Chickasaw Nation Commissioner of Health Policy Dr. Judy Goforth Parker tells CNTV News that app users from every state have walked more than 2.4 million miles and 5.5 billion steps as a group. Download the app now from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Next, LifeRx is another Chickasaw Nation fitness initiative that's making a difference in the lives of citizens. Chickasaw citizen Brad Frizell tells Quin how LifeRx has positively impacted his health and wellness. For more information about the program, visit www.chickasaw.net/liferx.

During the month of November we honor veterans who have served our country in the armed forces. Located across from the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, the Veterans Lodge is a beautiful space for fellowship among Chickasaw veterans and to access services, benefits and resources. To get in touch with Veterans Services, please call (580) 272-2550. The Chickasaw Nation is also dedicated to the mental health of veterans. Chickasaw veteran and licensed therapist Amber Hoover speaks with Quin about the importance of caring for the health and mental well-being of veterans.

To close the episode, Brad and Quin continue their conversation with Chickasaw citizen, orthopedic surgeon and Army captain Chris Wallace, who recently completed his first Iron Man event.
