Chickasaw Nation News

Brad and Quin are back together for the first time since the pandemic to bring you a brand-new episode of CNTV News from the Exhibit C Gallery in Oklahoma City. Over the last year, we've learned the importance of connection and the first story features a very special connection between a Chickasaw Lighthorse Police officer and a teenage boy with special needs. When Whitney Bivings learned that her son Caisen's guitar was stolen from school, she took to social media for help. Her post soon went viral and one person who saw it was Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Officer Cameron Mann. Moved by Whitney and Caisen's story, Officer Mann gifted Caisen his own guitar and had it signed by country music superstar Blake Shelton. "We will remember Officer Mann for the rest of our lives," Whitney tells Quin. "Even though there's one bad thing that happened, there's so many good things that happened out of that one bad thing."

In other news, the Chickasaw Nation has created a hotline to support victims of crime. The hotline is a way for victims to get assistance and connect them to programs and services. The hotline also helps victims stay informed through the judicial process. The service is available to all First Americans living in the 13-county area within the Chickasaw Nation. To contact the Crime Victim's Support Services Hotline please call (833) 774-1601 or email crimevictimssupport@chickasaw.net. The Chickasaw Nation continues to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to everyone, regardless of tribal citizenship, employment or state residency. Last month, the tribe expanded the vaccination eligibility to ages 12 and older. The Pfizer vaccine is approved for that age group. All patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the vaccine. For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine and to schedule an appointment, visit www.covidvaccine.chickasaw.net.

People recently connected online for this year's Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference. The virtual conference theme was "Empowerment Through Culture" with 2020 Dynamic Woman of the Year Margaret Roach Wheeler serving as emcee. The virtual conference included presentations from Chickasaw scholars and historians and the highlight of the program was the announcement of 2021 Dynamic Woman Dr. Jenny L. Davis, known for her passion for language revitalization, research and creative poetry. Another popular annual event is online this summer. Visit www.artesianartsfestival.com to browse and buy beautiful works of art by Chickasaw and other First American artists. The online market runs through August 2 and don't forget to visit the site often as it gets updated with new pieces.
