Chickasaw Nation News

This time on CNTV News, Brad and Quin begin the episode with an interview with Dr. Grant Lashley, a Chickasaw citizen, emergency room physician and COVID-19 survivor. One year ago, Dr. Lashley was fighting for his life. As he recovered from COVID-19 he set a goal to see the Grand Canyon with his family. Still on the road to recovery, he achieved his goal and experienced the grandeur of the Grand Canyon with his wife, children and two main physical and occupational therapists. He also tells Quin about the rehabilitation process, such as learning to walk again. "Limitations don't change you forever and you can figure out ways to be functional and active even though you may have some limitations," he says.

Next, we go to the First Baptist Church in Stonewall, Oklahoma, where the Farmers to Families drive-thru food program was recently held. The Chickasaw Nation, along with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, served about 500 families. Volunteers helped put boxes of food in families' vehicles, which contained fresh produce, protein and dairy items, including two gallons of fresh milk. In all, 21,000 pounds of food was provided to the local community. This month, the Farmers to Families program is hosted weekly in the communities of Pauls Valley, Norman, Colbert and Thackerville. Also, the Chickasaw Nation Tishomingo Nutrition Center is now open to assist with curbside food programs. The center offers nutrition information, support and resources.

Packed Promise is a wonderful food program for Chickasaw school-aged children living in the Chickasaw Nation service boundary. A 25-pound box of shelf-stable food is delivered directly to the child's home on a monthly basis. A $15 check is also included to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at Chickasaw Nation WIC grocery stores or farmers markets. Please visit www.packedpromise.com to learn more.
