Chickasaw Nation News

This time on CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran begin the episode with the anticipated approval and arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine. Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Health Dr. Charles Grim explains the process of the forthcoming vaccination programs, such as who will get the shots first and how many injections will be needed. Dr. Grim says that he will get the vaccine without hesitation as they are proven to be safe and effective. He also describes the state of COVID-19 spread throughout the Chickasaw Nation and Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, the Chickasaw Nation launched a COVID-19 dashboard that will allow users to view local and state COVID-19 information. The data displays the total number of confirmed cases in the 13 counties within the Chickasaw Nation, the number of deaths, recoveries and more details. Visit www.Chickasaw.net/covid19 to explore the dashboard. Next, the Chickasaw Nation is known for innovation and the latest example is a new approach to pediatric care. Dr. Tangra Broge, Chief of Pediatrics for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health, updates us on the new drive-through appointments for same-day sick-child pediatric visits. The new approach to care will keep patients, families and staff safer during the COVID-19 pandemic and provide a more comfortable experience.

To close the episode, Jennifer Jesse, the Young Child Wellness Community Coordinator, details the virtual Hofanti Chokma parenting workshop. We also learn about Chikasha Anokfilli, which is part of Governor Anoatubby's wellness initiative. The program features virtual panel discussions with Chickasaw Nation mental health professionals who help provide insight into the connection between mind, body and spirit as well as coping during the pandemic and the holidays. Merry Christmas and don't forget to visit the Celebration of Lights, a drive-through holiday light display at the Chickasaw Cultural Center open now through December 31 from 6-9 p.m. nightly.
