Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran continue their coverage of the impact of COVID-19 on the Chickasaw Nation as positive COVID-19 numbers continue to escalate. First, Brad and Quin get an update from Dr. John Krueger, Under Secretary for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health. "We're seeing the highest levels we've ever seen in Oklahoma to date this week, and I think that's only going to get worse, unfortunately," he says. "Really, the only thing that's going to stop that is changes in our behavior." Dr. Kreuger advises to limit contact to close family members within the same household. He also says that the Chickasaw Nation's COVID-19 testing centers will continue to serve citizens and the community. To learn more about testing, visit www.covidtesting.chickasaw.net.

Drive-through COVID-19 testing centers also offer the flu vaccine, which is recommended for everyone age 6 months and older. Chickasaw Nation Population Health Manager Heather Summers explains the many benefits of the flu shot to Brad and Quin, such as preventing flu, reducing doctor's office visits, minimizing risk of severe illness and hospitalizations and preventing death. She recommends taking the usual flu season precautions such as staying home if you're sick and washing hands. Mask wearing is an extremely important preventative measure to prevent both flu and COVID-19 infection. The Chickasaw Nation is offering the flu vaccine at no charge to the public. In other news, Governor Bill Anoatubby led a virtual ribbon cutting ceremony for the Chickasaw Honor Guard building. The Southeastern Art Show and Market, or SEASAM, will remain online through the month of December. To explore and purchase art, visit www.seasam.net. To commemorate the recent SpaceX launch, Brad and Quin connect with retired Chickasaw astronaut John Herrington to reflect on his history-making time in space.
