Chickasaw Nation News

Health officials are concerned that the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing quickly, and in this episode of CNTV News, Brad and Quin begin by speaking about those concerns with Dr. John Krueger, Undersecretary of the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health. "Inside our health system here at the Chickasaw Nation we have been experiencing very high rates of COVID-19 pneumonias in our hospitalized population," explains Dr. Krueger. With the impending flu season and COVID-19 combined, he says that it's like trying to manage two flu seasons at once, except COVID-19 is increasing at a much higher rate than typically seen. Quin also speaks with Dr. Krueger about how to differentiate symptoms of COVID-19 from the flu, colds and allergies and what to do if you're uncertain about your symptoms. His recommendation is that when in doubt, get tested for COVID-19 and now is the time to get your flu vaccination.

As the holidays approach, celebrations may look very different for many families this year. Doctors say it's best to plan ahead, avoid large gatherings and host events outdoors rather than inside. Dr. Charles Grim, Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Health tells Brad and Quin that we should social distance and wear masks inside when not eating. In other news, a presidential proclamation declares November National Native American Heritage Month, which is a time to recognize the significant contributions that American Indians have made to the establishment and growth of the United States.
