Chickasaw Nation News

Brad and Quin kick off the episode with a special salute to all veterans in celebration of Veterans Day. Partnering with the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Chickasaw Nation is featuring the exhibit entitled "Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation's Armed Forces." The exhibit tells the history of the brave American Indian and Alaska Native men and women who served in our country's military. This exhibit is on display at the Chickasaw Cultural Center through November 18. Next, they reveal the new Air Force patch designed by Chickasaw artist Dustin Mater for the 137th Special Operations Security Force Squadron.

The Chickasaw Nation hosts events throughout the year to support active duty and retired Chickasaw veterans. Chickasaw Veterans Services offers assistance with benefits and programs to veterans and their families. The Chickasaw Veterans Lodge in Ada is a beautiful space for veterans to relax and enjoy fellowship with others. The 15,000-square-foot facility is open Monday through Saturday and offers a variety of programs such as the Get Fresh! cooking demonstrations. At a recent Get Fresh! event, food demonstration specialist Sarah Johnson showed Chickasaw veterans how to make a healthier version of quesadillas. The Get Fresh! program encourages people to eat at home more often with family and friends. The cooking demonstrations inspire people to cook more of their own meals by showing them just how easy and tasty homemade meals can be. Classes are free for participants. Visit www.getfreshcooking.com for more information. To wrap up the episode, Brad and Quin recap the Chikasha Osto Pumpkin Festival at the Chickasaw Farms in Davis.
