Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran report from the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma, where visitors can learn about native culture, and now, the importance of agriculture. Agritourism is a new part of the Cultural Center experience. The plants at the Cultural Center reflect those that grew in the Chickasaw Homeland and add natural beauty to the grounds. Some also serve as food and others have medicinal value. "It's beautiful, and it's green, and the most important thing to me is knowing that we're growing plants that our ancestors grew, and we have them right here, on site at the Cultural Center to share with our fellow Chickasaws and anyone who comes to visit," says Chickasaw Cultural Center Horticulture Director Thalia Miller. The new season of agritours is now underway. To learn more, visit www.chickasawculturalcenter.com.

Next, Brad and Quin take us to Ada, where Chickasaw youth learned how to play lacrosse, a game that is similar to the traditional Chickasaw game of stickball. Then, they recap the Native Creativity event presenting wearable art inspirations at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. The fashion expo showcased beautiful native inspired clothing, jewelry and accessories. The 5th annual Holba' Pisachi' Native Film Festival was also held at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. The two-day festival featured 19 films in the center's Anoli' Theater and panel discussion. In closing, Brad and Quin preview the upcoming Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival, which will take place September 27 through October 5.
