Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran report from the Chickasaw Nation STEM Academy in Ada, Oklahoma. A variety of science- and math-themed activities and programs for kids are offered throughout the year, including the recent CNASA Camp in Ada. The Chickasaw Nation Aviation and Science Academy is a weeklong summer academy for students interested in space, aviation, math and science. The action-packed week is full of learning about different fields of science, building projects, testing experiments and making new friends!

Next, they take us to Kullihoma, where Chickasaw youth explored the outdoors at an environmental camp. The children participated in traditional activities like bowmaking and shooting, met Smokey Bear and talked with park rangers about taking care of the environment and our natural resources. In Davis, the rain didn't stop the kids from having fun at Camp Survivor, an annual four-day overnight summer program that encourages health and wellness with activities that promote sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork. Back in Ada, the Chickasaw Press organized the Holisso Ikbi "Book Creation" Camp. Instructors led group sessions to give children a glimpse into everything involved in book publishing, such as writing, illustrating and the creative process. Brad and Quin close the episode with a Chickasaw Press recommendation, "A Chickasaw Historical Atlas" by Stanley Nelson.
