Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran welcome viewers to the Chickasaw Retreat & Conference Center, nestled between the Lake of the Arbuckles and the Arbuckle Mountains near Sulphur. Opened in 2013, this facility features gorgeous accommodations for travelers and business groups, along with a high-tech amphitheater, fitness center and pool. Visitors can explore the surrounding nature and elegant architecture, along with the "Victorious" sculpture by renowned Chickasaw artist Mike Larsen. Larsen is known for both painting and sculpting, and his work can be found throughout the Chickasaw Nation and the state of Oklahoma. To learn more about the Chickasaw Retreat & Conference Center, visit www.ChickasawRetreat.com; for information on Mike Larsen's art, visit www.LarsenStudio.com. In Ada, Governor Bill Anoatubby participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Nittak Himitta' "A New Day" Women's and Children's Recovery Center. This facility, located near the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center, offers treatment and family accommodations for women struggling with substance abuse. "Enabling women to keep their children with them during treatment makes seeking treatment more attainable and offers additional motivation for recovery," said Governor Anoatubby at the ceremony. The exhibit "Visual Voices: Contemporary Chickasaw Art," featuring over 60 works by Chickasaw artists, will open in March at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson. Accompanying the exhibit will be a 128-page hardcover book highlighting each work of art and providing profiles on each of the 15 artists, along with essays and poetry by Chickasaw authors. The book will be for sale at the exhibit and will be available through the Chickasaw Press and www.ChickasawArtists.com.
