Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran take us first to Tishomingo for the dedication of a new property: the Chickasaw Nation Information Center, which serves as a gateway to the many attractions in this historic area of the Chickasaw Nation. Governor Bill Anoatubby also dedicated a new Tishomingo campus that includes a new community center, senior center, health clinic, Head Start and youth club. Next, we visit Sulphur's Artesian Hotel to recap the recent Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference. From panel discussions to break-out sessions, these Chickasaw women are sharing their experiences, learning more about their tribe and keeping their culture alive. Shelby Rowe, who attended the conference for the first time, was 2017's Dynamic Woman of the Year. Next, we meet Janessa Monetathchi, a Chickasaw singer-songwriter who recently released an album of indie rock songs. Some of Janessa's songs, which talk about her faith, family and tribe, even feature Chickasaw words. In other news, two Chickasaw books, "Chickasaw Women Artisans" and "Toli: Chickasaw Stickball Then and Now," recently earned Independent Publisher Book Awards.
