Community Arts and Craft Classes

Chickasaw Nation Citizen Benefits

A distinctive artistic style is a central component of Chickasaw culture, and the Chickasaw Nation Arts and Humanities Division works to cultivate the ability of citizens to add to this legacy. Community studio classes are offered to Chickasaws of all skill levels and cover a wide range of artistic forms. Students may learn both traditional and modern modes of expression, with class offerings including guitar, vocal music, theater, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and weaving. The Arts and Humanities Division also provides emerging artists with a platform to showcase their vision to the community, using galleries to present and market their artworks. With many public school districts lacking the funding to offer substantial arts programs, the Chickasaw Nation also invests heavily in outreach to youth, allowing them to develop skills and express their feelings. For its studio classes, the Arts and Humanities Division brings in teachers who are proficient artists themselves and also have an emotional commitment to spreading knowledge of the arts.
