Wild Onions & Scrambled Eggs

Healthy, Quick and Delicious Meals Made Easy

Among the Chickasaws and neighboring tribes, springtime was the occasion to enjoy flavorful wild onions. Traditional Chickasaw cook Lynie Richardson remembers her mother pulling the car over on a busy road so the whole family could pick a particularly large patch. Elder Rose Jefferson explains that many families would keep track of the best onion patches and would be reluctant to share their locations with others. Richardson uses bacon drippings to prepare simple and delicious scrambled eggs, which highlight the natural flavor of the wild onions.
