Chickasaw Nation News

This time on CNTV News, June is statistically the most dangerous month for tornadoes in Oklahoma but the Chickasaw Nation has an emergency management team ready to serve affected communities. Steve Cash, Executive Officer for Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management, explains how his department steps in to assist when severe weather strikes. Plus, KCNP Radio can help residents in south-central Oklahoma stay weather-aware. Find out more at www.kcnp.org.

For the first time in more than two years, the Artesian Arts Festival will be held in downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma. The in-person event is scheduled for June 25, featuring only Chickasaw artists. The online art market, however, will include artists from all federally recognized tribes. Visit www.artesianartsfesival.com for the latest event information.

The virtual Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation conference was held June 2 and 3. "Rooted in Resiliency" was this year's theme. Tobi Young was honored as the 2022 Dynamic Chickasaw Woman of the Year. She connects with CNTV News from Austin to discuss her career in law and public service, her heritage and this recent recognition. Each year, the conference also features a special butterfly design, which is selected from the Butterfly Art Contest. Kaylie Beshirs created this year's winning design. She tells CNTV News how it felt to win her first art contest. The application for next year's Butterfly Art Contest is available now at www.chickasaw.net/butterflycontest.
