June 1, 2014 – Resenda Lopez: Tornado Survivor

Chickasaw Nation News

Resenda Lopez recounts her harrowing experience surviving the deadly tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma, on May 20, 2013. As a Chickasaw Nation community health representative, Resenda's work requires her to travel hundreds of miles every day, despite the weather. It was on that fateful day in May that she was driving back from Pauls Valley through Cleveland County – right in the path of the Moore tornado. She was luckily able to take shelter in a local department store. Having survived the tornado, she stepped outside to chaos and destruction, wanting desperately to help those in need. This CNTV News segment captures Resenda's first time back in the area since that devastating day.
