Officer Hunter Nickell has served with the Chickasaw Nation's Lighthorse Police Department for seven years and he says it's an honor to serve his community. The department regularly practices community policing, a positive approach to interacting with those they serve. Officers engage with citizens to get to know them one-on-one, learn about neighborhood concerns and establish relationships. Officer Nickell says he enjoys how community policing allows him to interact with the public in a different and positive way. Lighthorse Police officers who are part of the community policing team travel to various sites, including senior centers and Head Start centers. Officer Nickell says the most important part about being a police officer is acting as both a servant and a leader.
