Jeremy Wallace: Drumming and Singing

The Chickasaw Nation

During the always-popular Stomp Dances, singing is half the fun — and also has spiritual meaning. The male leader does his calling song, and all participants sing out in response. It's easy — and echoes an ancient time when Chickasaws would gather, celebrate and pray around the sacred fire. Here, Chickasaw artist Jeremy Wallace sang as he played one of his handmade drums. Jeremy was also a Culture Keeper at the Cultural Center.

Jeremy’s life was tragically cut short in 2017, but his Chickasaw spirit will always be remembered.
